Fitness for work Assessments

Fitness for work assessments may be required at any point during the course of employment. Assessments may be required for example, at recruitment, following an injury or episode of illness, following workplace exposures, after long term  sickness absence, during routine surveillance for safety critical jobs or for legal compliance.

Fitness for work assessments are required to ensure the employee can perform the tasks of their role effectively without risk to their or other’s health and safety

Following a referral and  assessment  by occupational health a report is sent to employee’s manager which may include the following information depending the nature of the referral

  • Employee fitness for designated role
  • Any restrictions or limitations on fitness
  • Advice regarding treatment and further intervention
  • Likely return to work date or duration of absence
  • Return to work plan with any adjustments needed
  • maintaining future fitness
