The purpose of pre-employment or pre -placement health assessment is to determine the prospective employee’s fitness for the role which they have applied for . The assessment takes account of relevant health history and current heath problems as well as significant workplace risks. The applicant’s fitness is assessed specific to the job requirements and may take the form of a pre-placement questionnaire or health declaration. Work related investigations and specific tests are required for specific occupations and where specific legislative standards apply. Key information required from employer include job description, knowledge of workplace risks and job tasks. Any offer of employment is conditional to passing the pre-placement assessment.
